OUR CARE CONSULTANT – CHAY

Our newest Care Consultant here at Care Upfront, Charisse better known as Chay, brings lots of smiles and laughter as well as her dedication to the role.

Who are you?

Kia ora! I’m Chay, a proud Filipina with Japanese and Spanish roots, born and raised in the beautiful Philippines. As the eldest of three girls, I naturally grew into a caring and supportive role, which later inspired my path into healthcare.

My journey began with a degree in Biology, and in 2016, I moved to Aotearoa New Zealand to pursue postgraduate studies in Healthcare Management. Since then, New Zealand has become my home, a place where I’ve continued to grow both personally and professionally while building meaningful connections within the community.

At heart, I’m an island girl, I thrive in the ocean, under tropical sunshine, and around good company (I like to think of myself as a mermaid with land-based responsibilities!). I’m deeply passionate about people, community, and creating positive change, and I’m excited to bring my energy, empathy, and cultural background into the work I do in supporting others to live fulfilling lives.

If you had your last meal, what would it be?

It would have to be either a bowl of Thai tom yum or crispy pork with plenty of rice! washed down with a Coke Zero, of course!

OUR CLINICAL COORDINATOR – MAGGIE

Meet Maggie, one of our Clinical Coordinators at Care Upfront.

Who are you?

Born in Motueka, a long, long time ago. Scots father, mother hybrid European Scots, French, Irish, Maltese and English. I have 1 sister, 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

I grew up on a tobacco farm situated up the Baton Valley in a place called Pokororo at the foot of Kahurangi National Park. The boundary our farm was the Motueka river which was also my mode of transport to my friends farm 5 kms down river, a strong current to drift in or bump through rapids on my behind.

Typically for our area we (the kids) were co-opted into the labour force early helping on various farms whether tobacco, berry, hops (yes folks, the very same hops that flavour your favourite brew) naturally sheep and cattle also featured.

My first ‘official’ employment was Lab Technician for Unilever and from there I drifted into healthcare and nursing, ACC and homecare.

If you had your last meal, what would it be?

OMG! Really, only 1 last meal?

Entrée –  A cheese platter.

Main –  Roast wild pork, kumera, pumpkin, parsnip, yams and onion gravy. Oops better add cabbage for greens.

Dessert – Tiramisu with a decent amount of Masala.

Who are you?

I am originally from Ponnagyun, a small town in Rakine State, Myanmar. Sadly, due to ongoing conflict, my hometown is no longer in a liveable state.

My professional journey has been further enriched through nursing and health service management studies from Australia, which strengthened my passion for education, leadership and workforce development. I am currently completing a Master of Health Service Management at Massey University.

Outside of work, I am a proud wife and a mother who values family, lifelong learning, and supporting others to achieve their full potential.
